Call of duty-feel-Poem by Victor Mavedzenge

Call of duty-feel -good about yourself !

It don't matter for whom

Learn to resign to the side of you well lit

Let the work of your hands decorate your inner room

Be it a deed-do it.

A question-ask it.

Let it be done for one and all like a flower abloom

It don't matter how it fits into the realm of things

It don't matter what will be said of it

Long as when done the soul sings

Know that what matters is the torch

The spark lit

If you feel you should ...

Then do it

It matters not why but how

With care and fire, you cannot go astray

Coming from within-it demands that you do

Carpe diem for the how is in the now-seize the day

Your only task in doing-Is Do With a lot of tender care

When left undone That which was budding in you will die for lack of this care

Its stench will invade your memory

Decomposing states infiltrate budding desires-misery

It is important to know

What calls from within must be done

It is crucial too to know Caution-action breeds -reaction breeds.

Let that to be done be that which entails no harm

Forceful is the return of harmful deeds

The harmless flower-graceful charm

They too do, what needs to be done

One beautiful thing you notice when in Africa,Zimbabwe, is the beauty of the mornings and evenings. The sunrises (

as pictured above) and the sunsets are truly something to behold

The boy in the golden light

A beautiful portrait of a young boy taken in the "golden hour". This is usually between 4 and 5 pm when the sun casts an amazing golden glow.

The photograph was edited at alocstudios, emphasising the amazing skin tone achieved from the golden glow of the sun.

Top ten beautiful songs for earth day: about caring for the environment.

Sing a song to remind yourself that the earth needs caring for. It is worth remembering that if each one of us plays a part in caring for the environment. If you have ever wondered what Earth day is about, check out the meaning here

Top ten songs for earth day

I prefer to list the songs in no particular hierarchy as I find them all to be special in a non- comparable way.

1. Earth Song - Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson’s passionate song delivers an emotional plea for us to take care of the earth. A beautiful song, which raises a basic concern, that needs to be taken care of to ensure continuity of life on a healthy planet earth. This song rings true on any day, as we are all aware of the damage we are causing to the earth.

2. What a wonderful world -Louis Armstrong

An old favourite of mine. A song that speaks of a beautiful earth with blue skies, sun shining bright and people enjoying it all. A sharp contrast to what life has become in some parts of the world. A simple and beautiful song for mother earth. At the rate we are going, it will become a rarity to have such beautiful days on earth as pictured in the song, if we continue to neglect our responsibility to caring for the earth.

3. Oh mother earth -Neil Young

A stirring homage to the earth sung beautifully with the accompaniment of harmonica and organ. A dedicated and truly moving effort by Neil Young. The closing lyrics of the song send a powerful message

“Respect Mother Earth

and her giving ways

Or trade away

our children's days.” Watch the video on the right.

4. Don’t go near the water - Johnny Cash

This song addresses the issue of pollution caused by our modern lives. In the song he relates to his son how there was a time you could eat the fish you caught, now it is not safe any more.

5. Big Yellow Taxi -Joni Mitchell

Her lyrics “…paved paradise…put up a parking lot” are a testament to the price we have to pay for development. This powerful folk song delivers a sobering message about the human condition, “don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you got till its gone…” Joni Mitchell was a powerful folk singer whose work is still strong and vibrant today. Check out the video on the right.

6. Roll on Columbia roll on - Woody Guthrie

This song celebrates how much the earth gives. From production of electricity to fresh water.

7.We are the world - USA for Africa

A song that deals with taking responsibility. Though it was a dedication to Africa, the idea of making a better day comes from caring for the environment primarily. This works as a great song for Earth day.

8. Mercy mercy me (the ecology)- Marvin Gaye

A relevant question Marvin asks in the song is “where did all the blue skies go…” True to the song, things are not what they used to be. Another call to action for better care of the earth.

9. Time Is Ticking Out - The Cranberries

A candid song highlighting the need for urgent action in relationship to the earth.

10. Heal the world – Michael Jackson

Healing the world to make it a better place for all. A beautiful message for one and all. We have to “stop existing and start living”.

Posted by Victor Mavedzenge on August 12, 2012 at 12:30 AM Comments comments (0)

Youth Spirit Artworks is an interfaith Job training program based in Berkeley California. Through Art, the program gives youth between the ages of 15-25 a chance to experience a non-violent work environment. The artwork they make is then sold and they earn 50% of the proceeds.

The indiegogo campaign, launched on the 9th of August, aims to raise $4,500 to purchase an artcart like the one pictured above. This will be fully customized to bear the logo of the organisation and also fitted with an umbrella and customised carrying area.

An art cart will enable the youth to sell in various locations which are otherwise hard to reach without a GREEN  vehicle such as this. Please see the video below and hear what the youth have to say.You can see some of their work posted here.

Youth spirit artworks would really appreciate it if you could donate to this cost, any amount helps. More than this we ask you to share this campaign with as many people as you can!
